Waking Crow

Visual Artist, Photographer, and Musician

Waking Crow, also known as Crow, is a visual artist, photographer, and musician based in Camptonville, California. He is known for exploring themes of personal character and authenticity in his work, which he depicts in moody and emotional tones using studio lighting or on location in dramatic settings. He primarily shoots in digital but also works with large format film. His visual art is created using oil paint in an abstract style. In music, he plays the didgeridoo and theremin in a trance style.

Crow employs a diverse range of mediums in his artistic practice. He utilizes digital and large-format film for his photography, oil paint for his visual art, and creates trance-style music using the didgeridoo and theremin. His inspirations come from the iconic portraits of Annie Leibovitz and Herb Ritts for his photography, ambient artists like Brian Eno and Loscil, and expanding that with trance journeying for his music. His documentation of leading musicians and artists from Nevada City, California, has left an iconic visual representation of the art scene beginning in 2012 until today.

Reflecting on his artistic practice, Waking Crow believes that the most powerful offering he can give to the world is simply being his authentic self. As he states, "The most potent gift you can ever present to the world is your unique self."
